Free Indeed Means the Debt No Longer Decides

There is a kind of tiredness that sleep does not fix. Brick-kiln families in Kasur know it well. They work in debt bondage, which means the work is not really a choice and tomorrow is already spoken for before today has even begun. A debt hangs over the family, and it can shape everything — where they live, whether the children learn, even how much hope feels allowed. Rising Stone Mission, a Christian ministry in Kasur led by Pastor Nemat, works among these families because we believe a debt should not get the final word about a family’s life.

Jesus put it in words that still stop us: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). He was speaking first about a deeper freedom than money can buy or take away — freedom that begins in the heart, with God. But when you stand beside a family held by a kiln debt, you hear those words with your feet on the ground too. Freedom is not an idea here. It is practical. It is a family able to make choices again. It is a future that is not already owned by someone else.

That is why the story already shared on this site matters so much to us. One brick-kiln family was freed when its debt of Rs 300,000 was cleared. We do not tell that story to sound big. We are a small mission, and we know it. We tell it because it is true, and because it shows what freedom looks like when God’s people care enough to act. Clearing a debt does not fix everything in a family’s life overnight. But it removes the chain from the door. A family can breathe, plan, worship, and hope in a new way.

Freedom work does not stand alone, and we want the whole picture to be clear. At Rising Stone Mission we also pray with families, because prayer nurtures spiritual growth. On Sundays we gather for worship, and children learn in Sunday school, because Christian teaching builds faith. We provide food for physical needs and help with housing, and we support children’s schooling, because a free family still needs bread, a roof, and a chance to learn. We arrange medicines for the sick as far as our small means allow — honestly, that is small today. Each part is simple. Together, they say to a family: your life matters, all of it.

We are doing this today at a very small scale; partners make it grow. Another family will not be freed by good wishes alone, and we will not pretend the need is small or the way is easy. But the Son who sets people free is not finished, and neither is hope. Will you care with us today? Pray for brick-kiln families in Kasur who are still waiting for a debt to lose its grip. Share their story with someone who has a heart for freedom. And if you can give, give knowing that behind every amount is a real family, a real name known by God, and a real future worth opening.
